Vita

Already in her childhood, Rahel Brede developed a fascination for the stage. Growing up in a musical family, she initially became a member of the children's and youth choir at the Oper Kiel, where she took her first steps into the world of theatre and was already entrusted with various solo tasks. After graduating from high school and a voluntary cultural year in the administrative office of the Oper Kiel, she began her vocal studies with KS Prof. Matthias Henneberg at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden.

During her bachelor's studies, Rahel Brede had the opportunity to perform at various theaters and gain experience on stage with larger roles, including Hänsel in "Hänsel und Gretel" at the Landesbühnen Sachsen in 2016. After completing her bachelor's degree in 2018, she seamlessly transitioned to a permanent engagement at the Staatstheater Cottbus.

As a member of the ensemble, Rahel Brede has been able to further develop her voice in a wide range of styles, from Baroque to contemporary music. After roles such as Mercédès in "Carmen" and Emilia in "Otello," she sang her first Cherubino in "Le Nozze di Figaro" in the 2021/22 season under the direction of Jasmina Hadžiahmetović.

RBB Kultur wrote about it: "Rahel Brede is wonderful in the trouser role as page Cherubino, constantly changing roles, costumes, gender, reveling in eroticism, truly enchanting us all with her elf-like voice and leading us through a fairyland of love." Her debut in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo with four roles (La Musica, Ninfa, Messagiera, Proserpina) was also praised by the press as "particularly striking" (Märkischer Bote) and "stunning" (Lausitzer Rundschau).

As part of her engagement in Cottbus, she took on further roles such as Valencienne in "Die Lustige Witwe," or Clarice in „The Love of three Oranges“. In October 2023, Rahel Brede made her critically acclaimed debut in Cottbus as Octavian in “Der Rosenkavalier” by Richard Strauss under the baton of GMD Alexander Merzyn.

In addition to her work on the opera stage, Rahel Brede is also active in the concert field. Early music such as Bach's Passions are part of her repertoire, as well as Dvorak's Stabat Mater and Mahler's Second Symphony (Urlicht). In spring 2023, she performed as a soloist in two concert evenings with the orchestra of the Staatstheater Cottbus under the direction of GMD Alexander Merzyn and presented the rarely performed orchestral songs by Alma Mahler-Schindler. One of these concerts was broadcast live on RBB Kultur radio and television.

Parallel to her professional activities, Rahel Brede completed her Master's degree in Dresden in 2021 with top marks. Since then, she has continuously developed her voice, including with masterclasses with Brigitte Fassbaender, Elena Gorshunova, Lucas Meachem and Margreet Honig.

She has also won prizes in various competitions, including being a finalist in the Podium Young Vocal Soloists 2022 and multiple prizewinner of the DEBUT Competition 2024.

In October 2024 she was awarded by the Max Grünebaum Stiftung for her outstanding work at the Staatstheater Cottbus.

In the upcoming 2024/25 season, she will appear as Suzuki in “Madame Butterfly”and as the Fox in “The Cunning Little Vixen“. She will also be part of this years Mozart-Fest in Würzburg and makes her international debut at the Korea National Opera in Seoul, starring as Cherubino in Vincent Huguet’s production of „Le Nozze di Figaro“.
